Adult Ministry
At Seventh & James, adults will find opportunities to grow spiritually, participate in thought-provoking discussions, and join with others as we grow in faith. We also long to see people connecting with one another in deep friendships that last years. C.S. Lewis once keenly observed this about the origins of friendships: “Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: ‘What! You too? I thought I was the only one.’”
Adult Sunday School Classes
Sunday School classes begin at 9:45. We invite and encourage you to visit several classes and then choose one that you find interesting, affirming, and challenging!
The Bible Class - Rosalie Beck
This intergenerational, Scripture-focused class is led by Rosalie Beck.
Church People in Chairs Talking Life – Emily and Kent McKeever
This class will offer conversations about the big issues of our faith and how they show up in our daily lives.
Lectio Divina - Blake Burleson and Jim Kennedy
Lectio Divina is a contemplative approach to biblical study facilitated by Blake Burleson and Jim Kennedy. This intergenerational class practices prayer, meditation, chanting, and imaginative exercises which amplify sacred scripture. Blake recently retired from teaching world religions, and Jim recently retired from teaching Old Testament at Baylor University.
The Roundtable Class
The Roundtable class selects a Biblical book, either Old or New Testament, and then reads it together and discusses it in depth over many weeks (or months). Ann McGlashan moderates the discussion, and Lynn Tatum (Ph.D. Bible) serves as a resource on the historical background. Class participants are encouraged to contribute insights from their own lives or interests—be prepared for a few “rabbit holes” on the journey.
The Sojourners Class - Derek Dodson
This intergenerational class is conversation-oriented and follows the Lectionary.
